The Australian Swim Schools Association (ASSA) was pleased to participate in the South East Queensland Water Safety Forum, hosted by Royal Life Saving – Australia in partnership with Royal Life Saving Society Queensland and Surf Life Saving Queensland.
The forum brought together more than 60 representatives from over 40 organisations, all united by a shared purpose, to eliminate drowning and empower communities to be safer around water.
The day provided an invaluable opportunity for open dialogue, collaboration and insight-sharing among key stakeholders, including lifesaving agencies, education and community groups, emergency services, government representatives, and the aquatic industry. Collectively, participants reviewed progress against the South East Queensland Water Safety Strategy 2023–2027 and explored practical, coordinated approaches to addressing drowning prevention.
Representing ASSA, Iain McGregor noted the strong commitment to partnership and cooperation across sectors.
“It was impressive to see so many dedicated people coming together to share ideas and strategies aimed at reversing the increase in drowning incidents,” he said. “The forum highlighted how effective cross-industry communication and shared initiatives can be when we align our messages and actions.”
Case studies presented by the Police and Royal Life Saving further reinforced the power of collaboration, with evidence-based examples showing how coordinated efforts save lives.
