Congratulations to ASSA Swim School Member Healthways Recreation Centre and operations Manager Theresa Stewart – an ASSA Board Director – for 65 years of Healthways!
A truly unique facility, Healthways brings together aquatics, ten pin bowling and fitness all under one roof. To paint the picture, it’s not a big Aquatic and Recreation Centre, it’s a boutique family-owned community hub with a lot of character.

Walking through the doors feels like stepping back in time, with the team proudly embracing their retro fitout and heritage charm.
“Swim schools are proper community hubs. For a lot of families it’s the weekly ritual – familiar faces, high-fives, and kids walking out a little taller than when they walked in. The unsung heroes are the teachers and teams who show up day after day with patience, energy, and a whole lot of care.”
“Swimming lessons build confidence in real time. Skills improve, kids feel capable in and around the water, and for some it even sparks a love of sport. And it’s genuinely fun — you hear the laughter, you see the little wins, and you feel the joy on pool deck.”

Notably, Healthways is home to the oldest bowling alley in Australia. The milestone did not go unnoticed. Channel 7’s Sunrise joined the celebrations last week, and we were delighted to be there as part of the occasion.
